I found your piece very inspiring to read. It's great that you've been able to pause and gain some perspective on where you are right now. Nobody tells us this, right? Maybe there's something about leaving the 20s behind which allows us to stop following the treadmill and establish who we really are? It's taken me longer to get there; I'm 38 and only just starting to feel like that.
Thank you SO much for the kind shout out. I smiled a lot when I read that part of your post and am so happy that I can be of any help at all.
Some great book recommendations there too. I recently read the Glennon Doyle, and wow!
Thank you 💕 - yes I think we almost get a bit more confidence in our 30s to listen to ourselves! I've been loving reading about your journey so keep it coming! x
I listened to Glennon during lockdown. Definitely WOW. When I think of that book I think of the empty streets of Chorlton that I was walking and jogging around again and again.
Also Adele recommended it so, you know, I was obvs gonna read it :')
Another beautifully written piece Han, love the life mountain analogy. Reminds me of the Self Esteem lyric “Like the bottom of the mountain is when you were born. And the top of the mountain is when you die, so you're just constantly going up it” (apt as she has been one of my inspirations in the last few years.
I’ll tell you who inspires me though and that person is you! I’ve loved watching you grow and really come into yourself. You’ve always found kindness for people and I’m so happy you’re now finding that for yourself. You’re an incredible woman through and through and I’m just so very grateful I get to call you my best friend!
Thanks Sophie 🥰. YES! I did think of the Self Esteem lyrics when I was writing that actually. I’m so glad you passed on your love for her onto me!
And as for your other inspiration - you’ve no right brining a woman so close to tears on Substack 🥹. Thank you for such kind words. It does feel good being much kinder to myself. And I’m just so glad that you’re there for it AND reading along on here too. Makes me so happy! Xxx
A great read, I love reading well-being books, I have the Brene Brown book signed the Author... it says To Maria, happy 50th birthday, love Brene, so feeling old in your 30s? , your so young enjoy, Maria x
Glad you enjoyed it and how lucky are you to get a signed copy! Makes the book that extra special 🥰. Right, advice officially taken, I’ll enjoy being young (although age is just a number, right!) x
Just pausing to let it land that someone would not only read my words here but find them inspiring. And then go on to share them with their community. Thank you! And thank you Substack.
I relate to so much of what you've written here. 30 felt like a real watershed for me, in a good way and a scary way. I'm 34 now and still digging deeper and getting to know myself, including the darkness which I've unknowingly avoided all my life. (That bit is HARD but worthwhile).
I just want to hug my early 20s me and tell her everything gets so much better. She was so afraid, sad and unwell just trying to do all the things right. I definitely feel so much more myself now and have absolutely no hankering to go back.
Thanks for sharing this Hannah :) it’s another wonderfully written piece and it really captures that shift in perspective that seems to coincide with leaving your 20s behind.
I love talking to you about these things but it’s also really special to be able to see these things written down and shared with the world, so keep it coming!
Love this! Think we have similar reading tastes 😊I also loveee a self help book, untamed is one of my all time faves, and just finished Brene Browns Daring Greatly. Need to read The Gifts of Imperfection. Another book I would recommend is Playing Big by Tara Mohr. So fascinating it’s all about the ways women are socialised to ‘play small’ in life, ie are risk averse and can struggle going for big things. I found it really inspired me. Also love everyone of of the substacks you recommended too. 💯Thanks for sharing Hannah 😊
